Several years ago when Flo was four years old, she was struggling to breathe after picking up a bug at school. I ended up taking her to hospital and she was kept in overnight. The doctors gave her steroids, an inhaler and oxygen.
When we left hospital, Flo was given some inhalers to use until we could get a follow up appointment with our GP, but I wasn't sure exactly how they worked, how to use them properly, or what else I could do to help Flo.
The Helpline helped keep Flo out of hospital
That’s when I found Asthma + Lung UK. I called the Helpline and spoke to one of the nurses. They helped me identify what was triggering Flo’s symptoms and what preventative measures I could take. Flo hasn’t been in hospital since.
In June 2024 Flo was officially diagnosed with asthma after she had another asthma attack. Flo asked if I could teach her more about her asthma, so I showed her the Asthma + Lung UK website, explaining what the charity is and how it has helped us.
We wanted to show how grateful we are
She said she wanted to raise money and decided to do a bake sale. All weekend she baked for the sale and took it to school. I’m so proud of her, she just takes everything in her stride.
She initially set a fundraising goal of £50 but ended up fundraising £428 in total. We are truly grateful to the charity. Asthma is a journey. Flo has lots of triggers and I know a lot more now than I did before.
