This summer, we invited people living with lung conditions to show us how they’re making the most of the season. Adults entered with photos and artwork capturing their summer moments, while children shared drawings and paintings of their favourite ways to enjoy the outdoors.
With over 350 entries, we were inspired and in awe of the creativity, honesty and joy you shared. From peaceful garden scenes to bold challenges and joyful family days out, the entries captured what summer looks like when you do it your way.
Here are the winners of our 2025 Summer Competition and the stories behind the snapshots and artworks.
Adult competition
1st place: Lucy S.

"We went on holiday to Wales last week. The picture was taken at beautiful New Quay, where we spent a while sitting on the harbour wall enjoying the fresh sea air. It was magical. I was sad to come home. Our dog Skye loved it too!"
2nd place: Dominic H.

“Taking advantage of a good asthma day and hiking the Malvern Hills with my daughter.”
3rd place: John B.

“At the crater of Timanfaya volcano”
Runner-up: Constancia M.

"Tide was out on Morecambe bay beach so my family encouraged me to brave the walk on the sea bed. It was tiring but refreshing. We reached the water's edge and back, me out of breath with my walking sticks but thoroughly enjoyed. The view was magnificent.”
Runner-up: Hayley H.

“I've been enjoying summer with my two little boys. This particular photo was the day we went strawberry picking and it was a simple lovely day I will never forget.”
Runner-up: Carys S.

“I took up sea swimming in September 2023 as I'd heard of the amazing benefits it could have, both physically and mentally. Since starting this, my fitness has improved drastically and my asthma control is so much better. I now hardly ever suffer from exacerbations. This photo was taken last week during a sunrise swim, I am so lucky to live so close to the sea.”
Runner-up: Maria K.

“Making the most of the sunshine to get an early morning run in through a local linseed field in preparation for London Marathon 2026 for Asthma + Lung UK”.
Runner-up: Geraldine D.

“This is a watercolour portrait I painted, called "Selfie with Sunnies". It's a picture of me in our garden enjoying the sunshine. If you look closely, you'll see my husband reflected in my sunglasses. Our happiest times are the days we spend together in our lovely garden and we look forward to many more of them!”
Bonus: Linda S.

“20 months on from pneumonia, a plural effusion, Long Covid & a LTC Eosinophilic asthma diagnosis. With the help of my asthma medication, patience & a few stops along the way, I made it up the very steep hill (250 meters above sea level) to Prague Castle! I took the 220 steps back down though! Proud moment.”
Children’s competition
1st place: Adam H.

“Newqauy beach. We kept busy while the sun was hiding by painting some stones”
Runner-Ups: Aga S.

“I like camping with my family.”
Runner-Ups: Sammy C.

“Lilah loves to watch the skies, clouds and birds especially when the sun is going down, this is what she has painted :)”
