Shortly after my daughter turned two, I ended up in A+E after an asthma attack and I was admitted to hospital for just over a week. I’d never experienced such bad symptoms before and I was very breathless.
Getting my diagnosis was a relief
I was eventually referred to the respiratory unit at my local hospital. After various tests, I was diagnosed with severe and eosinophilic asthma.
Eosinophilic asthma is caused by high levels of blood cells called eosinophils in the airways. These blood cells cause inflammation was causing my asthma symptoms and making me flare up so often.
I had never heard of that type of asthma before. Once my consultant explained it to me, it was such a relief because now they could put me on the right medication.
My life is really impacted but I'm trying to stay postive for the future
My lung condition impacts me every day. I make sure that I have a blue reliever inhaler in every room. Even a small bit of walking can trigger an attack and it has really affected me mentally.
My daughter is now 9 and has recently been diagnosed with asthma. As she has seen me so unwell, she was really worried about how her asthma would affect her.
Since my diagnosis, I’ve been on several different types of biologics. I’m now about to begin Tezepelumab and am trying to stay positive about the future.
