Your severe asthma checker result
From what you’ve told us, it sounds like you should speak to your GP or asthma nurse to see how you can improve your asthma symptoms.
The first thing you and your GP or nurse can do is make sure you’ve got all the basics right. They might check that:
- you’re using your asthma action plan
- if you smoke, you're getting support to stop smoking
- you’re taking your preventer medicines exactly as prescribed
- you’re using the correct inhaler technique
- you know what your asthma triggers are and how to manage them.
If your GP or nurse thinks you’d benefit from more specialist asthma help and support, they can refer you to a specialist asthma clinic. This is usually an outpatients’ appointment at your local hospital.
See your GP if you notice your asthma symptoms getting worse, or if you need to use your reliever inhaler three times a week or more. Acting quickly when you notice symptoms can help you prevent an asthma attack.
