One of the ways we raise vital funds for our work is through face-to-face fundraising. We have a presence at various locations such as supermarkets, shopping centres and train stations in London and surrounding areas. FAQs
What is face-to-face fundraising?
Our professional fundraisers are situated in private sites such as shopping centres, train stations, supermarkets etc. in London and surrounding areas. They will be speaking to individuals aiming to raise awareness of our work and ask if they might be interested in setting up a regular donation to Asthma + Lung UK via direct debit. We work with a specialist agency called Acorn Promotions that helps us co-ordinate and carry out the campaign.
Why do we use this method of fundraising?
Face-to-face fundraising is a safe, secure, and cost-effective way to grow our community of regular donors. These ongoing gifts are crucial to our work, enabling us to provide long-term support and care for thousands of people across the UK living with lung conditions. Beyond raising vital funds, face-to-face fundraising also plays an important role in raising awareness—helping us build a world where lung health is better understood, supported, and prioritised.
Do we use an agency?
Yes, we work closely with a well-respected professional fundraising agency that carries out F2F fundraising on our behalf. Working this way is more cost effective and gives us access to professional and experienced fundraisers. All the fundraisers are highly trained, passionate, and motivated by our mission.
Who regulates face-to-face fundraising?
Asthma + Lung UK and our partner F2F agency are members of the Fundraising Regulator. The Fundraising Regulator is the independent regulator of charitable fundraising set up in the wake of a cross-party review in 2015. We abide by the rules the Fundraising Regulator sets out in its Code of Practice and Face-to-Face Rulebooks. We closely track our F2F campaigns and carry out mystery shopping. This ensures our F2F agency is carrying out fundraising to a high standard and follows the regulations and Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice. Find out more about the Fundraising Regulator.
How do I know if the fundraisers are genuine?
Our F2F fundraisers working on behalf of Asthma + Lung UK will be wearing our branded clothes with our logo on them and an ID badge which includes their name and photo. They will also be located near one of our branded podiums. A list of the sites we will visit each week is also available on this page if you would like to confirm their location. Our fundraisers will only ever ask for regular Direct Debit donations as they are not authorised to accept any other form of donations, such as receiving cash donations. If you need reassurance that a fundraiser is legitimate, please contact our Supporter Care Team on 0300 222 5800 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or email info@asthmaandlung.org.uk.
Will our fundraisers ever ask for cash?
No. Our fundraisers are not allowed to take cash from you - they’re only permitted to ask for regular donations through a direct debit.
What time do our fundraisers work?
Our face-to-face fundraisers will typically work between 8am to 8pm, Monday to Sunday, but this may vary based on the opening times of the site / location. Our face-to-face fundraisers work hours in accordance with the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice.
Is signing up to give a Direct Debit secure?
Direct Debits are easy, safe and secure, giving you full control of how much you wish to give and when. Your Direct Debit is protected by the UK’s Direct Debit guarantee, which protects you in the rare event that there is an error in the payment and lets you amend your Direct Debit at any time.
Who do I contact if I have any questions or wish to amend / cancel my Direct Debit?
