National charity seeks new leader to guide ‘life-changing’ support group in Holyhead

Asthma + Lung UK’s Holyhead Breathe Easy Support Group is seeking a new volunteer to lead the monthly in-person meetings and play a vital role in supporting people with lung conditions in the community

Asthma + Lung UK’s support groups are a lifeline for many people across the UK, offering practical advice, emotional support, and connection for those living with lung conditions like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchiectasis. These groups are made possible thanks to funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, helping to ensure people don’t have to face their condition alone.

The Holyhead group meets on the second Thursday of every month, from 1.30pm – 3pm, at the Blood Room, Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley, Beach Road, Holyhead, LL65 2QA. The meetings offer a safe, welcoming space where members can make new friends who understand what they’re going through and learn more about living well with a lung condition. Each session features guest speakers, group discussions, and opportunities to share experiences and support.

Now, the group is looking for someone who can step into a leadership role. The opportunity is open to anyone passionate about making a difference, whether you have a lung condition yourself, have supported a loved one, or simply want to contribute to your local community. No previous experience is required, and full training and support will be provided.

Katie Papas, Community Digital Engagement Manager at Asthma + Lung UK, said:
“The Holyhead group is a brilliant example of how community-led support can be life-changing for people. It's a safe and welcoming space where people can connect with others who understand what they’re going through, learn from expert speakers, and get support when they need it most. We’re now looking for a passionate volunteer who can help the group continue to thrive.

“The role can be shared between two or more people if preferred. If you're enthusiastic about building a supportive community and can commit to a few hours each month, this could be an incredibly rewarding opportunity.”
