Covid-19 has shone a light on lung health

In the UK alone, Covid-19 has caused over 150,000 deaths over the past 2 years, and there are estimated to be 1.3 million people living with the debilitating effects of Long Covid.

But lung viruses aren’t new

Infectious lung diseases, such as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in childhood, pneumonia and influenza in later life, play major roles in increasing childhood rates of asthma, worsening existing lung conditions and driving winter hospital admissions.

We need change

Policy makers must:

  • Scale up access to and uptake of effective vaccinations in order to prevent these trends and safeguard us all from future pandemics.
  • Improve data collection so we know how many people and which communities are accessing and receiving vaccines.
